On this past Sunday, 2 times on the same drive the rear hatch unlocked at low speed on braking. Cargo area empty, no mats or things blocking the striker or loop.
Has not recurred. Ideas?

Is it fair to assume that you mean "unlatched" rather than "unlocked"? I.e. it comes free of the latch and would open if you lifted it without touching the handle? If so, I would think that it's probably a slight misalignment of the latch, and that it is not fully closing, so a bit of bouncing about as you go along frees it?

If you actually mean "unlocked" I don't know - by default cars over here are not (as far as I can judge from mine) set to lock themselves as you drive along - but I know that an i3 can be configured to do that (and it may be the default setting in some countries).

Where was your Key Fob during this time?
Unless you have an early model with a fob that unlocks the Frunk, the later models (2015+?) have the i8 image and a button to unlock the rear hatch.
If the fob was in your pocket, you may have bumped that button.
