And if you have a REX, the all important "Hold State of Charge."
For reasons unknown, it seems like almost everyone coincidentally programs this to button #8.
Now I'm really intrigued. I've been wishing I could figure out how to tell the car to run on the range extender immediately (instead of depleting the battery first before it switches over) since the day I got the car. Any chance you could outline the steps to this process? I'd like to be able to use Preset #1 to activate it.

This would involve you buying (or borrowing) hardware and software and performing a procedure considerably more involved than setting the dashboard buttons. It might be a good idea for you to get some on-site help for this project to avoid frustration. There are youtube videos you can search for showing owners "coding" their BMWs if you'd like an idea of what you'd be in for . . .

I appreciate the info. I downloaded the BimmerCode app to my phone, and I plan to go out and buy an OBD adaptor today. Then I'll check out YouTube and see what there is to see. Thanks!

It's relatively easy. Follow the instructions about airplane mode. Don't freak out when you get resetting errors -- they will clear.

Wow, great stuff. I'll follow all the advice and look forward to using my range extender without having to run the battery down to zero first.

I started this thread soon after I got my i3 ('14 Rex), and some of your answers have been priceless solutions for simple things I'd have spent hours figuring out otherwise. But I'm still at a loss for how to program the "left/right" scroll buttons (those to the right of the #8 radio preset) so that I can set one of the 8 main buttons to my preferred list of radio stations and then use the left/right buttons to access them. There are more than 8 radio stations I like enough to set presets for (my car is a relative stripper without satellite radio), so using one of the 8 main buttons for something else (such as an HSOC toggle) would cost me a radio preset, not my preferred solution unless I can solve the left/right scroll question. Anyone know where I can go to look this up? Haven't had any luck with Google, i3 forums or on BMW's website. Thanks!

I'm not sure about using the arrows to achieve this, but the iDrive controller ought to scroll through your list once you've got it up on the screen.

I know the buttons can be set for this since a previous owner of my i3 set them up that way. What I can't figure out how to do is delete his choices and save mine in their place.

Ah!

To set presets:

Menu > Media/Radio > FM

Scroll through the list or bump your iDrive wheel to the left and select Manual Search (upsidedown Q) and dial in your preferred station.

Press your iDrive controller to save that station to your list of presets.

Scroll the iDrive wheel to choose the slot / preset # you want to save to.

To Delete presets:

Menu > Media/Radio > Presets

Use the iDrive wheel to scroll to the slot to delete.

Press Option (physical button below the iDrive controller).

Select Delete Entry

...and I see the L/R arrows work as you describe!
