Hi guys,

I'm excited like a virgin the night before the Prom

Tomorrow I'll be one of yours ! My i3 (BEV) has arrived a few days ago at my dealer.
My first trip will be 140km long (about 90 miles) most of it on freeways. So, there's a chance I'll feel the range anxiety for the first time.

What about you guys, how was your first "electric trip" ?

Last minute tip ? :?

Hi, congrats !

Drive safe tomorrow. I've got one important tip: leave the dealers FULLY charged. If they have to drive the car form the workshop to the delivery point and demonstrate the car for an hour upon delivery whilst not plugged in, you'll leave with ~80-90% battery max. Our good friends did leave their agent with a slightly depleted BEv, so they had an 'interesting' maiden voyage
You'll have to do some careful driving in EcoPro if you want to do 140 km on your first drive. Avoid motorways and avoid enjoying yourself. It could be a good idea to plan for some coffee or lunch somewhere along the way at a place where you can add some charge to your car...

My maiden voyage was flowless

I could have done it without stopping but I didn't want to take any risks on my first trip. So, I made an hour charge (7kw) after 65 km, went to a restaurant ate a Pizza and when I got back the battery was full.

Duration: 2:31 h Trip: 147 km (92 miles) Consumption: 13.1 kWh/100 km Average speed: 60 km/h (38 miles/h)

And...The Harman Kardon sound system ROCKS !

Voilà !

Awesome... wow....thats great.. and a pizza to top off the event perfect. What was the charger at pizza hut? Was it a chargemaster? Any probs or issues? I have no idea how I am going to concentrate between now and next week...

I have also completed my first trip safe and sound, however during the long handover/ explanation I noted,that the range was diminishing as the genius spoke. In the end the range came below the distance. I tried to manually switch on the range ex but I don't think it was activated. Eventually it did come on automatically and got me home.

First impressions.... Desperately need lumber support, back was twitching after 20 minutes.
Regenerative breaking was harsh and needs fine tuning, both I and passenger were feeling nauseous after a 52 mile home run.

I stopped at a mall where I knew there was a free charging spot. On a 22kW charging station the i3 take 7kW/h but at first the display showed only 0.570 kW/h. That's when I decided to go for the pizza. But first I took the time to register on bmw's Web site with my smart phone to be able to monitor the charging status from the restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised how easy it went.
As I was eating, about an hour later, the ConnectedDrive app let me know the charge was completed.
When I went back to the car I could see that the charge had reached 6.7 kW/h.

I had the impression from a brief test drive that the seat might be a bit firm. Anyway congratulations!
Is the right foot a carefully calibrated instrument? I read that the maximisation of range requires the coasting position to be held with gentle pressure to prevent regeneration. That sounds like a learned skill?

Surprised by your view of the regen braking. After the first 30 mins of our test drives in a BEV and a REX my wife and I found the regen braking to be excellent and loved not needing to use the brakes!

The first time I drove with passengers in the back they complained about the surging acceleration & braking cycles.

Since then, I always use Eco-pro mode and try to avoid sudden acceleration followed by rapid regen.

I think the performance of the car tempts you into an exhilarating driving style which isn't very comfortable in the rear seats.

Strangely - no one seems to complain in the front passenger seat.

It arrived in a posh lorry today about 10am... awesome... Had a great talk through with the hand-over driver and been out and tried everything except auto reverse park... Even went to the local morrison about half hour ago to check out my card and type 2 cable, grabbed half hour of free juice.

The adaptive cruise control is great and had no problems, although its easier just to have a go rather than try to understand the manual. Same for traffic jam assist. You have to put a lot of trust in the tech, with foot hovering over brake lol, but I soon relaxed and just stayed alert.. let the car do the driving.

Have set up the off peak times, and pre-conditioning for 0630HRS... I have a 64 mile trip, and therefore hope the target charger is working or I dont get to come home lol...

I didnt manage to note down any numbers today, was just so overcome with tech...

I had similar issues. The first I solved with a thin cushion to support my lower back. The second issue can be resolved with smooth driving and a bit of practice modulating the regen also using eco pro mode helps.
