How much heat does the charging process give off? My bedroom is above my garage and on days and nights like we are having now we park out ICE cars outside until after dark and they have had time to cool off. This drastically reduces the load my a/c has to overcome since there is no insulation in my garage ceiling/bedroom floor. So will I have an issue if I charge during the night: will my garage heat up due to heat from the charging process? Will I have to charge outside in the summer?

I would estimate that i3 will generate less heat than your ICE vehicle catalytic converter.
Battery re-charging will generate heat. Not sure of the exact BTU's for the i3 - which is dependent on how much charge is needed. From 0% to 80% battery charging heat would be higher than heat generated by the last 20% or just topping it off. Even the charging station will generate a little heat during the process. You will sometimes hear cooling system fans running to cool the battery.
Overall - I assume the i3 generates less heat than heavier EV vehicles with larger batteries to re- charge. And much less heat than an ICE vehicle catalytic converter.

Sounds to me from your description that money would be best spent increasing your home insulation at least in the ceiling of your garage. You may want to install a quite ventilation fan to exhaust internal garage heat rising to the ceiling. A fan that is temperature dependent.

Also, you can purchase a charging station that is weather resistant for outside if you find inside charging unacceptable.
