Wow. It's funny (from here) to see how the dealer try to get into someone's pocket. Even though it is an insurance job, I wouldn't let them do it. As you said, nothing to do with anything else, apart from sound insulation... Not sure about what year is your car, but I can imagine if it is an earlier model (pre 2017) it would be rather a wright off. Which would be a shame. I also wondering what would the dealer say if they discover some "real" issue with the car...

I have a strong disdain for people trying to scam others, being me or not, so definitely not letting them do it....
In addition, everytime someone scams my insurance, it contributes to raising my premium..... There is no free lunch.

The other disturbing part is that the car was in for the free replacement of a defective knob inside the car they promised me they would replace when I bought the car from them a few month ago. So why would they go and inspect the engine bay ?????

Unless they knew all along there was rodent damage, and were just waiting for the first opportunity to bring it up.

Disturbingly sad....

My dealer group always does a complimentary visual check including engine bay any time I have car in for any service/repair, unless I specifically decline.

It both gives them an opportunity to sell service and prevents later complaints from customers about missing obvious problems.

Thanks, good to know. May be they are at least not guilty of that last part

It is the problem when someone behaves badly, it makes it hard to trust them about anything else...
