I recently noticed that my myBMW app was reporting vehicle location not enabled rather than showing address of car. However, in the car the gps works fine and the settings show location tracking turned on. Any ideas on what might be going on?

Same for me, just checked.. I recall this happening previously and it was a server-side issue the was rectified after a few days. I don't recall if that was with my 2017 or 2021, but it wasn't a telematics issue

Just an update that the location report works fine on my X3 on the same app, so seems to be i3-specific for me at least. Please, nobody steal my i3 until this is resolved 🙂

Update - issue resolved.

ConnectedDrive customer support suggested I go into the connecteddrive menu in my i3 screen and update BMW Services (see photo). This worked, location now appears in MyBMW apps.

Well that's a weird one! I would have thought that BMW Services would be updated automatically. Glad you got it sorted and posted how. I might try a manual update anyway to see what happens.

This comes up a lot in the UK.

I have found that there is some - unconfirmed - ‘reset’ of the tracking status in the BMW server. With the EU wide GDPR legislation on privacy, permission has to be given to track the location of the car when you are not in it. I.e. tracking your partner maybe.

So that permission is granted in the car with the tick box as @Mondomensch says. The server then knows the person in the car has given permission. But….and this is speculative. Such GDPR ‘permissions’ cannot be granted for an unlimited time. Otherwise it can be viewed as not being ‘reasonable’ and has to be renewed occasionally. How do they do that? They periodically turn off or reset the permission in the server BUT, this is the big but, the tick box in the car is not reset.

So what I and others have done and it seems to work is to go into the car and ‘cycle’ the tick box. Turn it off and then on again. That sends the message to the server with the ‘on’ and the status is updated and the tracking and position works again whne requested in the app. For the USA ? No idea if that applies but I assume there is one server? Or server farm. Munich.

Hope that helps as a solution?
