My 10 year old i3’s range has MORE than DOUBLED!
After driving from Bristol to EV Sales And Repairs in Brecon, Wales this weekend, a 76 mile journey beyond my previous battery's range (
) my car's useable battery capacity has been increased from 16.2 kWh to 38.9 kWh!
This is after swapping out the old 97,000 mile 22 kWh battery with a 42 kWh unit from a crash damaged i3S.
We did a quick test on a local Rapid Charger which was the final assessment on the testing regime.
After topping up to 100% whilst hiking the next morning I then drove 76 miles back to Bristol and still had 71 miles range left by the time I was home.
I'm so happy with the result, it feels like I have a different car and the ownership experience is already changing: The first week I drove 100 miles round trip to Wellington and back and didn't have to do any costly rapid-charging!
I'll post a link below to EV Sales and Repairs who went completely above and beyond throughout and were the most knowledgeable i3 specialists I've ever encountered
Also very surprisingly, insurance was free (I'm with Churchill and only have one month left of my policy so when I renew I may learn more), but I have I'm writing it's covered as it's not considered a modification.
Cost: I managed to source a donor battery for £2,875 and the cost to install was £1,200.
REx: my i3 has a range extender which I've obviously kept and so I now have around 200 miles of combined range if needed.
Feel free to ask any questions.
