Looks like BMW may have realized they made a mistake. At the private ActiveE - i3 Event at BMW headquarters the BMW i program managers said that they were revisiting this and while they can't promise anything at this point, there is a good likelihood the numeric state of charge will be included on a screen in iDrive for those that are interested in looking at it.

Obviously this isn't an official announcement, but it is confirmation they are discussing it internally and are seriously reconsidering the decision to omit it.

That's good, indeed.
Bit of common sense never hurts anyone.

I like both, the SOC and Range indicator. However, If there is no SOC then I would have to blindly rely on what the Range indicator(which is in essence, someone else's mathematical calculation) tells me.

Even if it is based on sophisticated algorithms, for my peace of mind, I still would like to know how much ACTUAL money I have in my bank than an estimation of my spending power !

It appears that the SOC is shown as a percentage on the iPhone app (at least from the pictures).
A friend of mine just purchased an iPad Air, and I noticed that there was an SOC indicator with a percentage readout on his screen. When I asked him about it, he said that he went to the preference panel and enabled it, because he wanted to know "how much battery he had left". He does not drive an EV, and is using the iPad purely for reading, and for watching Amazon Prime, which would likely fit the profile of many other consumers. This has nothing to do with automotive. And most telling, Apple went as far as creating a dedicated setting called "Battery Percentage" in the preference panel. I rest my case.
