Hi everyone,

My name is Gabriel and I just bought an I3 rex full 120ah. I'm Brazilian and live in the state of Paraná.

I hope to learn a lot and contribute to the group.

I have 2 questions in advance:

1- Has anyone managed to transform the I3 into a V2G (vehicle to grid)?

2- Has anyone managed to install or enable the lane keeping assistant?

Anyway, these are 2 features that I think would be great to have in the car.

You might get better answers to those questions on the i3 Modified Facebook group.

1. Would be very difficult indeed, I would think. The i3 has no reason to have a built-in inverter (to mains voltage), the AC charging section is (obviously) inbound only, to the car, and the DC charging connection will be well-protected to prevent external devices being exposed to battery DC unless actively charging - with all of the necessary handshakes before that can start.

2. Depends on what options the car already has. If, for example, the car does not already have KAFAS installed, it would be an unfeasibly large job - much cheaper I would think to sell the car and buy another with TJA already installed. Note also that TJA is very much speed-limited - it's not a generic lane-keeping option.

I think you can forget about pilots like that in the real world. BMW will no doubt have used the experience gained in models subsequent to the i3, but you stand no chance of getting BMW to tell you what equipment and software modifications they used, and even less chance of them supplying parts and software to do it yourself. If you need V2G, buy a car with it designed and built into the car.

I managed to get Traffic Jam Assist enabled by purchasing a HOD emulator that plugs into the steering wheel.

If there’s a car in front it steers and follows it and keeps you in lane. Haven’t been able to get the kafas camera to do LKA on its own though.

For anyone considering this - if you are in a country where insurance companies require all modifications to be notified to them, don't forget to do so if you add any sort of emulator or other "workaround" (because there will obviously be both physical evidence and FASTA logged data which accident investigators will find).
