About to buy an i3. Will it be ok in winter driving?

BEV, hands down. And you'll likely get a better deal on one than with a REx because of perceived range anxiety. Aim for 15-20% off MSRP before incentives. This is the best time of year for deals.

    November Update,...free?

You have to say it a certain way. Say your ch@rger at home clicks when preconditioning the vehicle, and then point them to SI B12 38 15: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=881015

over 21k i3s sold in 2015 so far

A Maryland dealer is offering a "12-month test drive" of an in-stock i3 with the purchase of an X-series. They have more than 20 i3s in stock at last check. Sounds a touch desperate.

    Changing brightness for speedo

Only via coding. I have not tried to adjust the instrument display's brightness. The BKOMBI module would probably be a good start.

About to buy an i3. Will it be ok in winter driving?

Yes to winter tires in Utah. And the white BEVs are the fastest.

How do I calculate what it costs to charge my i3?

The relative (usable) battery capacity is 19 kW, so about $2 USD per "fill-up." Watch the neighbors’ eyes widen when you tell them that. :D

    Software update / Mileage improvement

If only it were this easy. Sounds as if you updated the communications/entertainment system. The November 2015 i-step programming can be done only at your dealership. Perhaps someday BMW will adopt Tesla's more effortless, over-the-air update model.

    Should I get one?

Just get one. This ain't a dress rehearsal. :)

REx in front of the cooling towers of a nuclear power plant

Here's my ’trooper, in front of its power plant, on last year's winter solstice. Lots of fusion-powered i3s out there.

    Lease Deal I Negotiated: Good/Bad?

15% off MSRP before incentives is an excellent selling price. Well done.

    Lots of problems

Yes, I'd work with your dealer on swapping it for another comparable i3. Yours sounds like a bad apple.

Total Newbie with newbie questions in lieu of reading manual

Ah, Jeffj is right. Those are indeed the range maps. You can turn them off in the map setting if they bug you.

    buying a lemon

A poster here said he closed last night in Macon, Ga., on a new 2015 for 15% off MSRP before the $7,500 rebate. That's about 350 miles from Mobile, with several L2 chargers en route in addition to a DC fast charger in Columbus. That'd be a fun road trip in an i3. The deals are out there. I...

    Buy a 2014 or Lease a 2015?

^^^ With the new Volt and Le@f in 2016, and the greater range of the 2017 i3, I would bank on this. Next spring/summer, when i3 early adopters come off their 2-year leases, should be very interesting to follow. Competition is a beautiful thing.

Total Newbie with newbie questions in lieu of reading manual

    1. Yes, but you have to code the car to change this setting. 2. Yes, normal. 3. Depends on past ~20 miles of driving; drive conservatively, range increases. 4. Sounds like the driving-mode info screen. You can turn it off by unchecking a box in one of the settings > vehicle info windows. Look...

    Lease Deal I Negotiated: Good/Bad?

What is the money factor, residual value and sales tax rate? These will be in the lease worksheet of your deal.

    Lease Deal I Negotiated: Good/Bad?

Large down payments on leases are for suckers. If you must, go the MSD route — you'll get a great return on investment. Check out leasematic.app.

    buying a lemon

I'd keep looking. You can get great deals on new 2015s this time of year if you cast a wide net.

Does anyone regret getting an i3?

The BEV is my best daily commuter yet. With your state's mild winter, do you really need the range extender? An 82-mile roundtrip commute should be a breeze for you 10 months out of the year — with mindful technique. And with Georgia's robust (and growing) network of DC fast chargers, there...
