key fob

First is it battery we need to replace in our key fob and how long ?
Second what if ...all of a sudden battery dead....how to open door?
Sorry if this is in already mentioed or its in the owner's manual.....but who reads it haha

The fob contains a cut metal key and there's a traditional lock cylinder hidden under a plastic panel in the door handle. All, indeed, covered in the manual.

Be warned that unlocking the door with the integrated key (to use BMW's term) will trigger the car alarm, at least in the US. If your key fob battery is dead then you will need to hold the fob against the right side of the steering column to disable the alarm. I don't understand why BMW designed it this way--it seems guaranteed cause problems. Luckily for me I discovered this when I tried using the integrated key as an experiment with my i3 in my garage.
