    Windows rolled down

I'm pretty certain that this is NOT caused by accidentally holding the unlock button down for a longish time. It's happened to me three or four times, and twice when it was pouring with rain! I was pretty certain that the car was still locked on those occasions, but I was more interested in...

    Tire Rotation for non-staggered i3?

No, but I'm suggesting it might be collusion with the tire manufacturers to make us buy more tires! Fair enough, but the i3 has different tire sizes front and rear, so you can't do the front/rear switch. Swapping them side-to-side suffers from the taper problem I mentioned in my earlier...

    Tire Rotation for non-staggered i3?

I can't for the life of me think why. If you look closely at a part-worn tread you'll see that it has a tapered directional wear pattern. The wear differs between front and back as well. Switching them round simply ensures that the "blunt" edges of the wear pattern become the "sharp" edges on...

UK->Euro adapter for BMW home EVSE

In fact, I have never measured more than 9.5Amps, and it falls off as the battery comes up towards full. The wall-mounted EVSE unit never exceeds 28.5Amps. I managed to find a continental 3-pin 16Amp plug with an attached twin UK 13Amp socket on eBay and it looks a very good bit of kit.

    Replacement Wiper Blades

...yes, and I wish I could get a longer blade for the rear window!

Recuperated Energy - what exactly does it mean?

Recuperation is another name for regeneration. Regeneration - the more commonly accepted term - is the recovery of Kinetic Energy from the car's motion and converting it back to electrical energy which is put back into the battery. That's the "recuperation". It's not a very efficient process...

Drivetrain issue - "Do not switch off engine"

I've had the drive train issue quite a few times ("you can continue driving but see your dealer ASAP"). :( The garage has had it back a couple of times to try and fix it, but it's not completely fixed: but it occurs only when using the REx, and nowadays seems to disappear again overnight...

Does anyone else feel let down about their BMW i3 BEV

We love the car, despite a few niggles, the top of the list being that it has four times wound the windows down all by itself while still locked! The first two times it was pouring with rain overnight and it took 3 days to dry the car out. The last two times it was dry, so...

Use of bmw for longer journeys

"this" what?? What "package"?? ...called by whom?? We're all in the dark here - except you, it seems.

    Any Aussie Maths wiz here?

I hardly think it's worth doing the sums on consumption, etc. Motoring costs are dominated by depreciation unless you plan to do VERY big distances, when the fuel costs might start to match depreciation. For example, my i3Rex is probably depreciating by at least £12/day. £12 a day would buy me...

    Coasting versus Regen?

Me too. Coasting is when there is no charge going into or out of the battery. That's when the white marker is pretty much central. Regen(eration) is when kinetic energy from the car's motion is being put back into the battery as charge. The conversion of kinetic energy slows you down...

Kent to South of France in i3 REx - am i mad?

I found this online, and it might come in handy for top-ups using the Occasional Use Charger at a hotel, etc., overnight. It is a full-spec 3-pin French-style plug with earth, and offers two standard 13Amp UK sockets. I couldn't work out how to add my image of it to this post, so here is what it...

Will the type 2 Mennekes plug pass though a UK letter box?

I'm not an electrician, but a chartered Electrical Engineer. So I can speak only for the UK. If your EVSE is connected to it's own Reverse Current Circuit Breaker (RCCB) - as it should be - then the balance between the Live and Neutral currents is continuously monitored (in hardware not...

12V battery. Should a trickle charger be used

So don't do it. You can't disconnect the HV battery, and it will keep the 12V battery "trickle" charged forever. Because even 0.1 Amp :o for 5 months, 24/7, would use only 4.3kWh of the HV battery to sustain the 12V current. To put 0.1A in perspective, that would flatten an ICE's 60Ah battery...

starting the range extender for emissions testing

Quite so! Not in Europe, it isn't!

Could you elaborate, please? And is there such an adaptor?

Seat Belt Tab and Buckle TOO LOW

That doesn't do anything about the problem half the posters on this forum are complaining about: Seat Belt Tab and Buckle TOO LOW! It's not about the tab - it's about where the tab fits beside the seat - which is TOO LOW!.

Kent to South of France in i3 REx - am i mad?

That is good advice, which I follow as well. I forgot to mention it earlier. If you watch it, you'll find that the state of charge varies quite a bit below and up to the marker at motorway speeds, and a bit of light-throttle motoring just before you fill the tank always seems to top the battery...

Kent to South of France in i3 REx - am i mad?

Yes, No, Yes. We've done several 250-300 mile each way trips to the Lake District. I've described the process elsewhere, but in summary, this is how we do it on any long trip: (1) Start with fuel tank full and ditto battery. (2) As soon as battery is down to 75%, start Rex. In mild...
