If your i3 has a 3G telematics unit, maybe this icon of the Earth cancelled indicates that your i3 doesn't have an Internet connection.

I'm pretty sure that it's the "waiting for GPS lock" indicator -- although "Earth Has Been Cancelled" would be a good title for a Sci-Fi anthology show episode.
