Hi Drb, don't get me wrong, I hope that all buyers get their cars ASAP. There is however a discrepancy in that what has been defined to me as a first come first served policy by BMW is simply not the case by virtue of orders being shifted so wildly. With regards to paying top dollar my fully spec'd i3 as you can tell from my frustrated posts has been far from preferentially treated, which I would not want. I agree patience is needed here, what pains me is the way in which expectations are mis-managed. This experience however has impacted my decision to buy an i8.

My friend, I agree with you the way BMW has handled this. Transparency in government and commerce (unless national security or trade secrets are at stake) is the best way to conduct business. BMW should have come out right from the get-go, talked about how it will distribute vehicles, why the Rex is not available in California and the issue behind this, etc. The buyers of the i3 would have been reassured with a candid appraisal of matters, cutting down on the amount of rumors and discussion, helping to sell more vehicles. Transparency and candor wins the day every time. BMW builds great vehicles including and especially the i3. By contrast, its missteps are in the area of communication, PR and, in the case of California, handling the regulatory process. Let us hope for a better day.

I ordered my Rex mid Nov 13. I was expecting delivery mid May. I was told by dealer that the car was about to go into production. Then after hearing nothing for 2weeks I chased on the production status only to be told that BMW have put back production on orders ammended in March (I dropped DC fast charge following BMW email that there was uncertainty on the rollout of compatible fast chargers). They were quoting September, I went nuclear with the dealer who said he has got it down to late May production for June delivery. I am fuming - I was told when ordering it was a first come first served basis - really BMW? seems like certain orders are being injected into the queue.

Fed up with getting run-around and close to dumping my order and dropping the deposit for an i8. Given the poor customer service before purchase and growing complaints about customer service after purchase I have to question if BMW are the right people to buy this technology from.

I am sympathetic with your position and appreciate BMW could have acted with more transparency but surely a car amended 3 months after ordering would almost certainly be delayed? I assume the dealer did not warn of this possibility?

I hope the i3 arrives soon of course.

Hi.. I enquired about changing the spec of my bev 3 months after order and 2 more the be for delivery (end april). Dealer told me it would delay my bev until September so I decided to leave it alone... its now built and expected in UK next week... yeee...

Hi electricvirgin, unfortunately my dealer did not warn me that changing the spec would delay the build otherwise I would have stuck with the DC fast charge prep - it was only as a result of an email from them about the uncertainty over compatibility with fast charge in the UK that led me to change the spec. I was told that I could change the spec up until it was going into production. I will simply have to apply more pressure to the dealers and carry on surviving on pictures and reviews from current owners on this forum. :(

Hi MrM

That is a great shame, i would expect the dealer to be much more knowledgeable about the order process for their own products.

Hopefully not too long now and perhaps the recent production increase will bring it forward?

I have a positive update, that in the interest of being fair I want to share with everyone. Following the insight you all gave me about your orders and what I should have been told, I contacted my dealership armed with this knowledge and suggested I would be better off cancelling my orders and re-ordering through another dealership. My order is now back on schedule for the end of May, as I was originally told. The dealer has also offered to loan me a demonstrator for a weekend.

Thanks again to everyone for sharing information.
