Steering wheel paint rubbing off

On my '94 i3 BEV Giga (new to me), I noticed that the tan color "paint" of the steering wheel hub (where the BMW emblem is located) is rubbing off and I can see black plastic underneath. Do any of you have this same problem with the tan color steering wheel? what would be some options to repair or "repaint" it? it looks like the hub was painted and over time the paint is coming off.
