Need help. This is my first error in owning this car almost 8 months. Came on yesterday while driving. Is there a recall on this or do I pay the dealer $2k as some have?
I've had a new BMW battery installed 4 months ago if that matters. Thanks.

It will depend on the nature of the fault - reading the car's diagnostic codes should give more information.

One common fault is a failure of the wiring to the seatbelt buckle on the driver's side, which IIRC can manifest itself as the car no longer being able to detect if the belt is fastened or not. That fault should be easy to see (typically one obviously broken wire) and relatively easy to fix.
