Short synopsis: after a 12V battery change, my 2014 i3 REX is not recognizing my key fobs. I receive the error “Remote control: Incorrect key” when holding it next to the steering column.

Details: both main and 12V batteries were completely drained (for 2-3 days) when I started replacement of the 12V battery.

After install of the 12V, I was able to and have fully charged the main battery.

I have tried the numerous procedures on the web without success. eg: temporarily disconnecting the 12V and reconnecting; car button sequence; etc.

I receive same error using both remotes. I am the second owner of the car, but believe the two keys are the originals.

Any help would be appreciated. Would hate to spend $hundreds for a dealership repair.

Thank you.

Have read on the forum that installing a new 12V battery that hasn’t been fully charged can cause problems. Perhaps disconnect your new 12V battery and use a battery charger to top it up, then reconnect?

I would do as you suggest but leave a 24 hour delay before reconnecting the charged 12V battery

I had topped off the 12V before installing as most tutorial videos suggest. I will attempt to reinstall as madasa suggests and reinstall 24 hours after topping off. I will report an update in a couple days.
