Hello everyone,

I just bought my 2021 i3 and its air conditioning isn't cooling. And it's very hot here in Brazil! I've been to 3 garages and run different scanners on it and there's no error message for any component. It only indicates that the system's gas pressure is at 4 bar. My biggest concern was that the compressor was having a problem, but in principle, that's not the case.

So, suspicions fall on the gas. The car was parked at the dealership for a few months and I've heard that if the air conditioning is turned off for too long, it can cause problems.

Now I have my questions.

1) Is 4 bar of pressure enough?

2) The connector on my car's air conditioning line seems to be completely conventional, which would indicate the use of R-134a gas. However, here on the forum I've heard people saying to use R-1234yf gas. Considering that the car is a 2021 model, which gas should I use?

3) Do you know how much the system takes?

Thanks

If you open the bonnet/frunk and look up at the underside, you should see a label, close to the windscreen. That should show the refrigerant type to use, and the quantity it needs, with a tolerance.

Thank you very much.

I went to the mechanic today to check the system pressure and it was at 95 PSI (6.6 BAR). The scanner reading indicated 4 BAR in the system.

According to the mechanic, this difference in pressure may be indicating that the system pressure sensor is giving an incorrect reading and not allowing the compressor to arm to preserve it.

Do you think it is worth trying to replace the sensor? Have you seen this problem before?

Thank you.
