Pro nav touchpad not working

Just leased a 2014 REx today with every option including pro nav. Strangely, the touchpad "writing" did not work during the customer delivery process with my CA. He's going to call me on Monday about it. No a huge deal, but obviously it should work on a brand new car.

Has anyone heard of this? We went looking for options and there's nothing in the "touchpad" settings that indicates it can be disabled.

It's in Menu/Settings/Touchpad: scroll to the write box and click to tick it. Then it'll work.
I unticked it because it's infuriating how it sees your finger hovering as you try to input words!

There are 3 options in Settings > Touchpad. All of them are checked.

I read the built-in owners manual and it says the "Speller" option is the one that allows touch entry of letters/number. Well I disabled and re-enabled this and yet when I go to nav > enter address, all I get is scroll or voice input. :?

My Media/Telephone software is at version 002.049.003.

Dealer replaced the touchpad unit. Now all is well.
