It is time to replace the wife's car and the i3 has made the list. I have a bit of hesitation over the range as she does have the occasional meeting 80-100 miles round trip. With no option to charge. However we can work around this.

I am in Atlanta, GA and while looking around saw the following deal:

BMW Owners Choice:
10k milers per year (24 month term)
Charging Station included
$12.5k due at signing (the sum of federal tax credit + GA tax credit)
$139 a month + GA TAVT tax

My understanding is that at the end under BMW's Owners Choice I can turn the vehicle in vs. dealing with the balloon.

This looks like a good deal to me but to be honest I just started looking. Thoughts?

To be honest I would rather have a 36 month term vs. 24 but all the advertisements are 24 months.

1. Are you looking at the REX given those 100 mile trips without charging?

2. Since so much is being taken off the top, the calculations on a lease will actually increase your payment with higher monthes (30/36). I paid slightly more per month to extend my lease to 30 months. I think with Owner's choice you can directly receive the tax credits assuming you pay at least 7500 in federal taxes and 5000 in state taxes.

3. Can you post the following details: MSRP, negotiated sales price, APR, and residual percentage? Are you expected to put 12.5K cash down or is that treated as a separate balloon loan due in 2 years? In Georgia, do you have to own the car for a certain length of time to qualify for the tax credit?

Good luck!

I just spoke with the sales guy and he is working on getting me the numbers. I was able to find a bit more information. What I am using as the starting point is a 2015 i3 with the Technology & Driving Assistant package. Although every i3 I am seeing has that package so maybe it is standard. MSRP = $46.4k, asking $41.9k. With what I am seeing in some other posts maybe not such a good deal. However this is just a starting point. I have not started any negotiations.

Not looking at the REX as that means losing the $5k GA tax credit. The $12.5k would be the down payment upfront. I would never normally do that on a lease. However with the tax incentives I am willing to do so in this case.

We are doing a bit more investigation for the longer trips. She is going to see if something can be done for charging. The other options are to swap cars those days or rent something. Neither are the ideal solution but they will work.

The other deal I have come across is a 24 month lease at $199 a month with nothing down.

PDXelectric - thanks for letting me know that that it cost you extra to extend your lease. I can do the 24 months but 36 works out better for me. I am not sure I am willing to pay extra for that be we will see.

On my wife's current car (39 month lease) we can extend up to 3 months at the existing lease payment. We get extra miles each of those months and it is simply sending them a form.

We will be getting the wife's new car before the end of June. A month earlier than we need it. But the state tax credit goes away on July 1st.

No need to own the vehicle for a certain amount of time in GA. At least not that I am aware of.

The $199 lease deal is from BMW Roswell:

I misread the add. This is a Owners Choice deal also, not a lease.

I was told to figure another ~$160 a month for the GA TAVT. However after talking with Dimitri I understand the advantages of Owners Choice a bit better.
