My wife and I ordered a Rex today - I do have a few questions. (and will I'm sure have more in the future)
BTW we are in Arizona, USA.

The salesperson told us that we can get a home charger from Bosch a lot cheaper than the BMW one. Has anyone had any experience with that? Also will the BMW app still work with a different charger (to schedule charging , etc?).

We are excited as the production is starting tomorrow and they estimate 8 weeks until delivery.

Thanks in advance

First off, you should be thrilled at the incredibly fast turnaround. I placed a deposit for our REx in August 2013, finalized the order in February and was promised to be amongst the first in Georgia to get it - originally projecting the first week of May. Update with the dealer last week indicated my build has been delayed until the last week of June, with delivery unlikely until the middle of August. I'm guessing that our specification of leather (Tera) interior is the source of our delay.

You would be well advised to utilize this site's excellent search engine to root out the best options for EVSE installation. My recommendation at present would be to do it yourself with either the Schneider or GE $600 30 amp unit from Home Depot or Clipper Creek's $600 unit, plus another $100 or so for the 40 amp breaker, 8 ga cable, and staples. An hour or so reading the NEC to get a feel for how to run the cable would be time well spent, or you could simply hire an electrician for a couple hundred more.

The BMW app will work with any EVSE, as the control takes place from the car's end.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry to hear yours is taking so long. Hopefully the factory can start pumping them out. We ordered the Terra world as well, they said it would start this week, so I wonder why yours won't start until June. I'll let you know if any delay occurs.
I've looked into the Bosch, but will look into your suggestions as well.

Now I have to figure out how the state of Arizona views the car, as a hybrid or electric (gas powers the electric motor), I hope the latter as the registration fees go down significantly.

My initial guess as to why Arizona gets its i3s before Georgia might have been that it was a CARB state, but that is apparently no longer the case: http://www.greencarreports.com/news...a-emissions-standards-over-electric-car-rules.

Outside of Electronaut Edition vehicles, deliveries do not seem to track any discernable pattern of order sequence or production number other than that generally West Coast deliveries seem to take priority. Arizona gets its cars from California ports, so perhaps that helps explain things.

This delivery schedule vs order date and production number thing is really hard to figure. I ordered with deposit a Tera Rex fully equipped on April 7th and was initially given a week 24 production schedule. About 6 weeks after the order I got a production number and was told the production date slipped to week 27.

Larger, more prominent dealers also get allocation sooner and in higher quantities.
That's how it is for Porsche, Ford, and others. Don't see why BMW would be any different.

I should have said at the outset that my dealership had a production slot that still could be modified. We happen to walk in at the right time and according to them that starts today. I do have a production number, and on "my bmw"it states that they are currently processing my order and will inform me when the car enters production. Not sure if that's a good sign, but my fingers are crossed.

I placed my order on 4/7/14 and got my production number on 4/24 and my BMW said currently processing your order at that time and it still says the same thing today. Originally my dealer said it was a production slot that they had said they had that still could be modified. On the day I placed the order 4/7/14 the dealer gave me a production start on week 24. Then on 4/24/14 they notified me that it slipped to week 27.

I got my production number on February 5th, the day my dealer got his allocations, and was given a March build week for delivery the first week of May. It, too is a Tera REx and its build has been slipped to the same week as yours - 27. This would make sense to me if that were the week the leather will finally be available, but Kenbob is getting a Tera REx as well, and his will apparently be built this week (week 22).

I suppose the order of manufacture goes strictly by dealer allotment, and those of us in Ohio and Georgia whose dealers have low priority will simply have to wait.

I see what you are saying, but if a dealer has a build date allocated that date should not keep slipping because other dealers with higher priority supposedly can slip in after an actual customer has placed an order and been given a production date. If my delivery continues to slip, I will be cancelling and the hell with BMW for me.

I ordered in April and I have a week 42 production date. So I think you have priority somehow? Seems like you are picking up cancelled slots?

(From a personal point of view if people cancel their orders maybe mine gets built earlier.  )

I'm going to book another weeks test drive each month.

That should keep the anxiety level down. ;)

Did you hear the joke about dead cows......

My i3 REx came 3 weeks earlier than expected. Don´t know why exactly, but I believe that is because of delays for leather interiors, which I did not buy.

Not sure how often the tracking site works, but if it's real time, they haven't started our car this week....hmmm, will keep everyone updated

Well I've just joined the delay club. Now they are telling me week 28 for production. Dealership is apologetic and offering free window tint. Going to discuss options tomorrow.
