New i3s owner in Leeds, UK with National grid issues

The DNO pays for all the unlooping as it’s their problem. Many other posts in UK group confirming this. However they may decline to do it if they think the supply is adequate. They recently reduced the ‘entitlement’ from 100a to 80a. Probably your fuse was 60a which is why they have marked it as needed to be updated. Every property is entitled to the basic supply at no cost. Paid for out of part of all our standing charges that goes to DNO to keep up the network. Don’t let the neighbour worry. It’s just if you have a tarmac drive in sand they might redo the trench line in black. That can be an issue.

Also you won’t get 11kW unless you already have 3 phase and that is an extra as it isn’t standard. Usually in the order of £3-£10k depending on distance. Anyway the i3 can only charge to £7k so not sure why that’s needed.

I think the i3s can do 11kw on AC from what I've read? Don't think we will bother with it if it's a lot extra £££ though.

Do they always replace the whole cable from the road to the house? We have a garage and a paved driveway which ideally wants leaving alone. Sods law says it will run underneath the garage if they have to!

Yes, it can, but it has to be 3 phase AC, totally not necessary and very expensive at home. All charging except 'rapid' charging is AC. From single phase AC, like you'll have at home, you'll get 7kW max - that will still put around 28 miles of charge into the car per hour.

True it can do 11kW on AC - if and only if - you have 3 phase. I suspect in a domestic property that isn’t really a thing unless you have a lot of dosh as I believe you have to pay for a meter on each phase and therefore a standing charge on all three phases….

Mostly farms or industrial units which can be a good thing if that supply is already there and paid for.

As for the drive…..yes that is one reason why folks don’t want them to do it but going forwards 10 years you are way better to be unlooped. They will terminate it some where on the property at a meter and then it will be your responsibility for anything else. I am not a DNO engineer but suspect that needs a conversation with someone more knowledgable.

Anyway a quest for 11kW is not really worth it unless you have a 85-110kWh battery that you empty every day. We just are not in that sphere. 42kWh / 7kW = 6h should be enough on any UK over night tariff.
