Thought I would share this great addition to the owners of the BMW i3 & i8.
Months ago, I installed the Lowes “Iris” alarm system in my home & garage and found the power management option very helpful for turning on lights, heaters, etc. Their starter system starts at $179 and has unbelievable options and expandability.
The power management system works exceptionally well with my i3 for power management. Aside from being able to power my charging system from anywhere off site, Iris also displays wattage so I can monitor the charging rate of the car. Another nice feature is monitoring the pre-conditioning, The Iris system works with your Smart Phone so while I’m at work I can turn on or off charging and monitor how many watts are being uses as well as when the charger kicks off.
Another bonus is you enter your power company’s power cost and Iris keeps track and gives you daily – weekly – monthly and yearly actual power cost to keep you puppy charged. As you can see it cost me $1.61 to fully charge and precondition my i3 yesterday with the battery down to only 12 miles remaining.
