If the neighborhood social media scuttlebutt is right, the latest thing all the "cool thieves" are doing around here is busting out car windows and stealing clip-on garage door openers. The idea is to come back later and burglarize the empty house. My i3 has the integrated g/d opener and not the kind that clips on a visor, but I'm curious if someone could snap off the rear-view mirror and apply 12V to use the opener -- or are the smarts located somewhere else in the vehicle and the buttons on the mirror are just buttons? Anybody know for sure -- I know I could disassemble the thing and find out, but I'd rather not do that just now.
