Hello! I got a rather nasty scratch on the front wheel. With other cars, I know it would be a somewhat easy fix with corrective paint. But the i3 seems to have a brushed steel coat, rather than regular paint. Has anybody been able to refinish the 429 style rims? Could a regular rim shop take care of it? Thanks!

It's just clear lacquer over machined aluminium, isn't it? There should be plenty of wheel repair shops around that would re-skim and re-lacquer, I would have thought - though they generally never hold up to winter use for more than a few years before corrosion gets under the lacquer.

It seems to have a slight brushed texture, which might make it more challenging. I will stop by a shop when I have some time and report back...

I believe that it’s a diamond cut alloy so needs a specialist repair. Something like

Wow! That looks involved! Thank you for sharing.

I fund a place that says they can fix it for a flat $150. I may give them a try within the next few days.

My understanding is that diamond cut wheels can only be recut twice before too much metal is removed. Sometimes a wheel can have been repaired due to in transit damage before a car is even sold by the dealer so you may or may not be lucky.

Quick follow up. I ended up going with a mobile service called Pit Stop (LA area) and they did a fantastic job for just $99.

That looks great. I did the same thing to my rim and looking for a fix. I’m in the SFV. Can you give more details on the place that fixed it? Also how long did it take? Thanks.
