I know there is numerous options for after market cameras however i was wondering if anyone has installed the factory camera on a none camera equipped I3.

Thanks

I totally agree - what Buyer would not have paid another $100 or so to have a back-up camera, the monitor is already there - even low end cars have cameras its a safety issue

This would be a good option considering they force you to pay £700 for the parking package. I wouldn't bother with sensors again after my last car had just a camera. Makes sensors unecessary when you can see the car is half an inch from a lamppost. Im pretty sure i can park an i3 in any space considering my other car is an X trail so yeah just a camera would have saved me about £600!

It's my understanding that the camera has a digital output, not a video signal like most of the cheaper alternatives, and you may have trouble getting any other one to display on the screen. A cooperative dealer might let you look at the wiring diagram, but it might not be easy to just incorporate it into the display as an aftermarket item. A potentially good market opportunity if someone does figure it out.

I imagine that it would have to be coded in to get it to work.

I look at it this way " If you can't Friggen park a car" you have no business getting in one! Go ride a bus or bother your neighbor. lol

Often, turning and looking (or a good camera view) are required to back up safely in addition to your mirrors which leave an important part of the view out of the picture. There are some people that no longer can twist and turn enough to do that effectively, and a camera is a very useful adjunct to safely navigating when going in reverse. No matter what you do, from within the car without a camera, you cannot see the ground behind the vehicle whereas a camera can. When you get old enough or run into health issues that impact that, you may understand.

It looks (and I'm not so technical) like they might have closed that market opportunity by discontinuing a part for the control unit:

...but the reversing camera all looks good... Especially if it's plug and play right here.. Or maybe it just needs the option coded in too.. (Option s3aga possibly?)

All you have to do is run over your neighbors dumb kid one lousy time and everybody will think you're a jerk. Use the rear view camera and save yourself some dirty looks at the next Homeowners Association meeting..... And some grief from your insurance company.

You are looking at the camera module for the KAFAS camera here(Lane departure, pedestrian detection, active cruise, etc), not RFK(Rear Facing Camera). The RFK is it's own module on these vehicles, connected via Ethernet to the NBT/HU-H under the rear seat. It would be manageable, but the harness is not in the rear bumper for the RFK if it was not ordered for it. I am not sure if the harness in the cabin is prewired or not, have not had one apart yet.

So the Reversing Camera in the second link, is not the same as the RFK?

It is, but the first link you provided is the control module and bracket for the KAFAS camera(forward facing). The RFK is it's own module.
