I can't thank PhilH of suffolk enough for getting me the contact details for the CEO of Sytner.

Today I was informed the roof damage was not severe enough to require the roof to be replaced only repaired in situ .

The estimate for repairs comes to £10,400.00

They will be replacing my Mini Cooper curtesy car with an i3. (don't know yet if it will be a rex but I can cross that bridge later).

I don't yet know the time scale for the repairs but it should be a lot quicker now and if I get the i3 curtesy car to run around in it doesn't matter so much if it takes a while to get my own car back.

Will let you know more later.

Bernie Curtis :)

Thanks, well congratulations on making progress. Did you have or post any pictures so we could get a sense of the degree of damage for that amount of repair cost?

I only have photo of where my car ended up and the state of the garage afterwards but where do I display them.
I can't put them on here can I ?

Put them on postimage.org and link or embed them here on the forum:

I wrote a howto here: http://www.mybmwi3.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=419

You will need to copy and paste it into your address bar or write it in manually.

Sorry it took so long or if it doesn't work!!!!

I'm assuming this will display the image inline:

Well done PhilH,

I don't know how you did it but its much easier to see now how clever I was at demolishing garages and wreaking i3rex's.

I am much happier now I have been loaned an i3 which actually has a more expensive specification than the one I bought.

Mine should be repaired by 30 Sept. (If its on time?)

My insurance company, Churchill, assure me it won't cost me a penny more than my agreed excess even if they replace the car which is unlikely because after everything Sytner/Thorne think they can repair my car without replacing the roof and they are also saying that even if they do need to replace it the expense isn't as much as they first said.

Watch this space !!!!

That was a bit of a mess! a definite "oh **** " moment there Bernie.

Are Churchill ( motor ins ) also covering repairing the damage to your garage? or are you having to make a claim against yourself on your household policy? ( which might of course be with the same company.

Yes I had to claim on my house insurance for garage damage and your right it is also Churchill.
I'll worry about increased premiums early next year when I get them .

Finally got my I3 rex back yesterday and it looks better than new. I can't say I enjoyed waiting 4 months for the repairs to be completed but I still love the car.

I don't think BMW should be selling cars without warning customers that it can take so long to do accident repairs.

Bernie

Good to hear that at last you have your car back. Did you get an i3 as a replacement whilst yours was being repaired or were you stuck with a MINI? Are now going to put doors on the back as well as the front of your garage. I too find it easy to select the wrong direction of travel and it rather annoys me that the parking sensors don't stop bleeping after you have engaged drive.

Regards

Its a long story but because I insisted that Sytner Harold Wood repaired my car my insurance company wouldn't loan me a car, only if I took it to their authorised repairer ,Trust Ford at Barking. They no doubt would have taken it to the same place anyway.
Unfortunately you can't have it both ways and Sytners would only loan me a car after four weeks. That was not too bad since I was abroad on holiday for some of that time and we have Freedom Passes. My wife and I are retired and live in Greater London so we qualify for free travel on our Freedom Passes in London .

After four weeks we were loaned a Mini Cooper.
After another four weeks, as advised on this forum, I complained to Sytner's CEO that it was not my fault it takes forever for accident repairs to be done and I thought loaning me a six speed manual was not really a fair replacement.

Much to my surprise the next day the Mini Cooper was replaced with a white BMWi3 REX with a better specification than my own one. I did suggest that I kept it and they kept mine but that one didn't work.

After another two months, last Saturday, I finally got my own I3 back.
its Solar Orange and Frozen Grey and it looks brand new again.

No I hope I have learnt my lesson so I have not put another door at the back of the Garage just in case of a repeat performance.

Churchill, my car and house insurers, were no problem and have paid about £25000 to repair garage and car in total.
It was all because I put my hand in my right trouser pocket to find my house keys and straightened my right leg out and silently accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in less than 8 secs into the garage doors.

When I first explained to the Churchill girl on the phone what I had done I told her how embarrassed I felt.

She just laughed and said people do it all the time. Far warning to everyone else then.
Funnily enough the car was nearly written off but I was completely unharmed.

There is a saying that you should not go faster than your guardian angel can fly . My guardian angel must have caught me up when I hit the garage doors.
