Sent in my 2017 i3 today to Safelite to get my windshield replaced today. They called and told me that my car was throwing up a mountain of codes for the camera and they could not clear the codes. According to them, if they can't clear the codes to a suitable level, they can't replace the windshield. I was told to take the car to the dealership to get it cleared up and then bring it back to have the windshield replaced. I called my local indy BMW shop and they told me they couldn't do it, so I guess the dealership is my only option. I asked Safelite if they could just replace the glass and then i'd take the car into BMW for the calibration and codes after they replaced the glass, but i'm guessing out of liability they said no. Took a day off to get this done and just another headache.. anyone else have this experience as well while trying to replace their windshield? I'm afraid what the dealership is going to charge to to diag the car and clear the codes...

Currently having the same issue. I have been trying to get my windshield fixed since August 2024 . Attempted two different glass repair shops they both stated it needs to go to a BMW dealership. Both shops gave me very different reasons for why they can't work on the vehicle. Safelite told me they are unable to properly seal the windshield and it would leak water into the interior. Select Auto Glass told me they need to replace and paint body trim pieces around the windshield. I am going through insurance to get this fixed considering I live in Florida and the vehicle is registered and insured in Florida. The BMW dealership tells me they do not speak to insurance companies and I have been the mediator between them. The dealer quoted me $1,300 before labor and tax, but they are giving me the parts at cost because I am going through insurance to get this repaired. If I wasn't going through insurance the cost of parts would be $2,405 before labor and tax. The dealership also has informed me they cannot give me the labor costs until the vehicle is in their possession, but labor "should be an addition $300". My windshield still hasn't been repaired/ replaced.

This has been a very lengthy process and insurance has been very manipulative. First insurance is telling me they won't cover it if I take it to a BMW dealership then later telling me I refused labor and turned away Select Auto Glass to now telling me they have a specific process to go through a dealership and if the dealership works on the vehicle before they approve anything I won't be reimbursed for the repairs. I hope this gives some insight.
