    2017 i3 BEV

What a nail biter, indeed. I guess this is why BMW included key fobs for model years 2015 and 2016 i3s with an i8 icon. They reassigned the function of that button from opening the front trunk to opening the back trunk but didn't redraw the icon. The re-mapping seems redundant on the new key...

Whats the best lease deal ever?

Isn't the $7,500 a float that you have to pay back to BMWFS by the OC w/Flex maturity date? What do you mean by "keep"?

Sanity Check on this deal - SoCal

Aim for 15%-20% off MSRP before the $7,500 credit. You've omitted the model year, selling price and money factor in the lease calculation, so it's difficult to judge your deal. The 2015s, at 10k/year, have a residual this month of 64%. May is an excellent time to take delivery of a stale 2015.

    Technical data on the engine?

Here's the technical training PDF of the W20 (REx) engine. Maybe it has what you're looking for?

    underbody protection

I was too  to report this yesterday, but after my shift, I grabbed a Harbor Freight LED (with a magnet) from the garage workbench and tried it out in various spots on the HV battery housing. It did not stick anywhere. As I mentioned, imolazhp, if you happen to find that source, I'd be...

    underbody protection

Sure thing. Here's a better view. Looks like aluminum to me:

    underbody protection

I'd be curious to see your source if you ever find it. Here's an automotive tech giving an overview of how he removed ("like, so many bolts") the i3's high-voltage battery. You can see there's nothing between the HV battery housing and the road: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6DVQnHQHPM

    underbody protection

There is a steel cross plate, but it is above the HV battery, according to a BMW technical training doc.

Battery & Cabin Preconditioning Departure Time

Set it to 5 p.m. In the time leading up to then, the car will automatically activate the climate system to precondition the HV battery and cabin temperatures so that they reach ~70ºF at 5 p.m. In extreme temperatures (dead of winter), the car could take up to three hours to achieve that optimum...

    Auto Time Set

For the bells and whistles — in some settings, literally, warning lamps and welcome gongs (or lack thereof) — I’m not concerned about warranty denials, especially when comparable i03s in my market have active settings that are inactive in my BEV. Changes, however, to mission-critical settings...

    mph vs range(duration)?

    Auto Time Set

Some North American cars have the auto-time option, while others don't. To make the auto-time box appear in settings > date/time, you have to code two of the car's control modules. BKOMBI module 3000 > GPS_UHR: set to aktiv HU_NBT 3000 > SETTINGS_TIME_AUTOMATIC: set to navigation See more...

    Door unlock on stop

Apparently, there were "no significant updates/bug fixes" in the March 2016 update. http://bmwiforum.bmwusa.com/thread/682/bmw-product-software-update

    No more 24 months lease?

    Door unlock on stop

Same here, but it was the November 2015 update that disabled auto-unlock on my BEV after turning off the car. What does the I001-16-03-504 update address?

2014 i3 REx sets Edmunds.com record for highest depreciation

Leasees and Owner's Choice + Flexers rejoice. The comments are interesting, too.

Good or Bad Deal in Socal

Is the .00152 money factor the new base rate? Seems high. It's negotiable but also dependent on your credit rating, as I recall.

    Releasing Cruise Control

After the November 2015 i-step update, the bite of the regenerative braking feels less abrupt after disengaging cruise control. Thought I was imagining it, but regular passengers noticed, too. If you don't have the software update, I'd book an appointment at your local dealer. It's worth the time.

    Involontary window open

Indeed. I coded the panic button to precondition the cabin.

    Opening Key FOB

With the metal key out, I inserted a flat head screwdriver in the slot under the cover and gently twisted counter-clockwise. The battery cover then popped off. Don't use anything sharp, and you should be fine.
