Drive an i3 with REX for 700+ Miles?

FWIW, I just drove my I3 Rex for about 50 miles with no extra juice in the moderately hilly Ozarks. (My planned charging stop was non-functional). Somewhat to my surprise, I was able to maintain 70 mph with no problem! I suspect you'll be fine as well.

    Trunk Open Faulty Sensor?

I adjusted the rubber stops on my trunk, and was able to make the sensor happy for the last few months. This morning, however, I got the dreaded "trunk not closed" message again. I adjusted the stops in one turn increments from all the way in to all the way out, to no avail. Does anyone know...

    NEWBIE REX ACTIVATION QUESTION

Congratulations! You're going to love the i3! As soon as you feel up to it, I'd recommend getting the Bimmercode app and an OBD unit, and coding it so you can use the REX whenever you want below 75% charge. It makes it a much more useful car. I take mine on the highway often, and usually use...

steering Wheel became Hard to turn

This happened to me briefly this week, too. To answer PBNB's question, my car does NOT have the park assist feature. It was an odd feeling - for me it started with a slight pull to the right which, like others, made me think I had a flat. But then it was just stiff, and wouldn't return to...

    REX Acoustic sound dampening

FWIW, my 2014 i3 Rex didn't come with a parcel shelf. I ordered one from a salvage yard, and it helped considerably with the sound. At freeway speeds, I don't hear it at all on low speed, only when it kicks into medium or high.

AC smell when first turned on

Often a smell for the first few minutes of air conditioning is caused by a clogged drain in the evaporator pan. I don't know about the i3 specifically, but sometimes they get clogged up with leaves or dirt. That sometimes means you have a little water in there that didn't drain out with some...

Help decide between 2014 vs 2016 Used i3

I'd be more inclined to go with the newer one, too. Both of them look like good buys, though. Welcome to the club!

Turn on Rex early on freeway?

I'm sure you're correct as usual. We're coming at this from two different angles. From my point of view, I don't really care if the Rex is heavy, noisy, and inefficient. Thanks to its existence (and the ingenuity of BMW engineers), I can drive 160 miles of variable-length trips in a week and...

Looking to buy a BMW I3 REX

    Well said!

Turn on Rex early on freeway?

You're absolutely right; the Rex on its own is not super efficient. But taken as a whole with the rest of the battery range, it's excellent! I use my Rex at least a little every week. Last week I averaged over 160 mpg. That, in my opinion, is what makes the i3 Rex brilliant, and so much...

    I3 eventually

I love my 2014 i3 Rex! I, too, live in the Midwest, and on a full charge and a 50 degree day, I'll have a range of 72 miles. Today, when it was in the teens all day, I had only 45. As someone who drives typically 30 to 60 miles per day, I couldn't do without the Rex. My car has 50,000 miles...

    Answering BMW i3 skeptics

I think most people these days just won't understand. A lot of us like the experience of driving as much or more than getting there. It's the reason my ICE is a Saab turbo. "Life is too short to drive a boring car!"

Soon to be 2015 i3 REX owner low miles, purchase, BIMMER CODER?

Check YouTube for coding instructions; there are some good posts. Also, once you get the coding done, you'll be able to program the "Hold State Of Charge" function to one of the 8 buttons on your dash to make turning on the Rex really easy. Like TheMK, I usually like to use the Rex on the...

Just got a CPO 2015 Giga REx

I wasn't able to find a volume adjustment either, so turned off the lock sound. The marker lights still blink, so I know when I lock or unlock it.

Tire issue is frustrating. Need help with spare options...

You have my sympathy, especially if the i3 is your only car! If that's the case, a spare set of tires may be a good investment. I had a similar situation, but fortunately still had my ICE I could drive.

Help! mY 2016 rex gas range never goes over 50

I wouldn't hesitate for a minute to use the Rex for 20 miles each day. It's a scooter motor, after all. Aren't scooters made to be ridden every day? If you haven't already coded your car for the Hold State Of Charge, I'd recommend that so you can turn on the Rex while you're still on the...

Picked up a 2014 Tera REx

I, too, have a 2014 Tera REx, and I have to respectfully disagree with Jadnashuanh's statement that if you need to use the REx, you shouldn't have bought the i3. I'm a sales rep for a living, and although I usually stay within my battery range, it's not unusual for me to have to kick in the REx...

    Trunk Open Faulty Sensor?

Thanks for the tip! I just adjusted those stops a little - I'll keep an eye on it and see if that helps.

    Trunk Open Faulty Sensor?

My 2014 i3 REX with 46,000 miles often tells me it's trunk is open when it is most certainly closed. I'll go back and reclose it, and sometimes that will make the dash light go off and sometimes not. Now I seem to be having occasional issues with my interior lights staying on, and I suspect...
