The two cylinder engine in the Rex is a 647cc four stroke unit, which is a detuned version of the one found in BMW's C650 scooter. In the scooter the engine produces 60bhp, whilst in the i3 it is restricted to 37bhp.
My assumption is that this detuning is simply a change of chip in the ECU, the evil little devil on my shoulder wonders what might happen if I used the scooter chip in my ECU?

My intuition says it would not make a difference, as the generator it drives will also have a maximum amount of power capacity to deliver to the batteries. If you would succeed, you may overload the generator.
