Solar Powered Cars / Vehicles

Car technology seems to be advancing at a rapid rate as can clearly be seen in the new BMW i3. Electric cars seem to be the most recent wave of the future. I was wondering if the BMW i3 forum thinks that Solar powered vehicles will ever be able to become mainstream? Some of the solar technology highlighted on Wikipedia is pretty impressive.

There are a lot of advantages of using solar power especially for cars. The world is getting polluted. Green-minded consumers are becoming attracted to these products since it is more eco-friendly.

I'm driving a solar powered BMW now. Soon, that solar array you see int he background will be powering an i3!

It's an 8.775kW system. 39 SunPower Sp225 panels. You can view the live production from my BMW ActiveE blog http://activeemobility.blogspot.com/ if you would like.

It provided about 90% of my total home and car charging electric needs.
