Has anyone moved home and taken their EV home charger with them? Keen to understand what's involved and an idea on price etc. I had a Rolec unit installed under OLEV grant back in December 2014. I think I need to let OLEV know etc? Keen to hear the experiences of anyone that has gone through the whole moving process with their charger.

Thanks :D

I asked and they said that you could not move it but they were reconsidering the procedure. Never heard back. Given that the unit send data back I assume they would know if you moved it!

I would think it would be simpler and probably cheaper to get a new EVSE at your future home, rather than pay an independent sparky to remove and reinstall the existing one, ( even if OLEV would let you do this). They are still subsidised at the moment and you would presumably benefit from a fresh warranty as well.

Possibly worth just asking at your new address and see what happens, I suspect that Olev are not going to be that efficient with back office stuff. :)

Just looked up the rules on their website the two Q&A guidance notes seem to be most relevant in your circumstances - Perhaps if you got a cheap Registration plate you might get away with a new EVSE ? As they seem to pin the grant to the Reg Number.

Q16. Can a household with two vehicles that are eligible for the Plug in Car Grant or Plug-in Van grant have 2 OLEV-funded domestic chargepoints? Yes, however it is vitally important that when your installer informs the Distribution Network Operator, they must clearly state that this is a second chargepoint, and give the combined current of the two chargepoints in amps, e.g. 2 x 16A charge points installed at a total of 32A. No more than 2 chargepoints can be funded at one property irrespective of how many vehicles are registered there.

Q17. Can a householder move a chargepoint that has been installed under EVHS or the previous domestic chargepoint scheme? You must contact OLEV at [email protected] requesting permission to move the chargepoint, confirming the current post code and chargepoint ID and providing the address and post code to which you wish to move the chargepoint so that our records can be updated. OLEV will not contribute to the costs of moving a chargepoint to a new address.

I think Q17 is quite clear about the possibility to move a point and makes sense. Were I to move mine, I would probably get in touch with Polar/Chargemaster and the friendly electrician who installed my EVSE. Given the vast number of home chargers now, there must surely be some experience with a moved home charge point.

The physical installation of an EVSE is not much different than any hard-wired appliance, so it should not tax any qualified electrician. Now, navigating the maze of potential grants and approvals, may be more difficult. It's basically, run three wires in a code approved manner, and attach to the EVSE...not very hard, but the way you need to get the wiring in place may be. MOst of them are rated for indoor/outdoor, and how the wires are attached may differ, but again, not much, if any different than any other appliance.
