A local deal offered a good price on an i3 rex that has 2k miles on it. According to him, this was used for extended test drives and hence has so many miles.

The price works out to be $325 per month, $2500 down. Msrp $55k, includes all upgrades.

I feel like price is good, not sure how to think about the mileage or the usage of the car so far.

I wouldn't worry about the miles, in few months you'll have many more on it. Check carefully for all the nicks and scratches that previous users left and get price adjusted for those.

And make sure that your lease contract does not include those miles.

Where are you?

What's the selling price of the car? How much are you paying in taxes?

Need more info to know if it's a good price, but I wouldn't have any concern with buying a test drive car given the right deal.

You also need to be sure the car wasn't previously titled, otherwise it won't be eligible for the federal (and potentially state) incentives.

Do you know why there would be so many miles on a car on dealer lot?

I am only leasing, so concern on tax rebates.

If you're wanting feedback on price, we would need the info I listed above. Payment doesn't provide enough info.

In some states, even with a lease, the taxpayer claims the state incentive while BMW takes the federal.

I am in WA state, no taxes and state rebates that I am aware of.

I did a bit of search and found this. It looks like the car was practically given for short term rental:)

BMW has this program where they give the car to prospective owners for 3 days to test in real life conditions. I bet people drive more than usual during those tests, maybe 100-150 miles each, so 2000 miles would be probably about 20 people (and about 2 months in time).

It could also be a car used as a loaner given to owners when theirs is in for repairs or service.

Either way 2000 miles is nothing, just make sure that you are first titled owner and that this mileage is excluded from your lease and otherwise properly discounted.

Our REx had about the same mileage as yours when we leased it, it too was a loaner and test drive car. No issues related to its prior service at all, you will have nothing to worry about. After all an EV does not need a careful breakin procedure like an ICE....what harm could have been done?

Looks like about $7300 off MSRP, which would be a good deal on a new one. Some people have gotten over $9K off loaded REx models with less than 20 miles on them, so I would want at least $10K off on one with 2K miles on it.

Are you sure it has all options? A fully loaded REx with metallic paint stickers for $56,050, non-metallic for $500 less.

As far as the car having "all the options" are you sure that you want the 20" wheels? If you live where it freezes you will have to spend another $1800 to get new rims and winter tires since there are no 20" winter tires available. Just a thought......

When I checked all the options on bmwusa.com, I get $55,050 (except for the charging station). I definitely don't need the 20" wheels, but it already comes with the car..

The BYO site is down right now, but $55,050 is the MSRP for a REx that's missing the parking package. Not sure when you started looking, but the parking package was hidden from the site for the last several days, presumably because they're changing over to the MY15 configs.

if you have 20's and temps get down into the 40's you really should ask around about the safety risk of using summer tires in the winter. Maybe you can get the winter wheels and tires rolled into your lease?

They work fine in those temps.

Really, I though that mid40's were the dividing line, that's good news if you live somewhere just on the margin.

Much better than Pilot Sports/PS2/PSS that I keep on other cars. Given the 440 treadwear rating on the i3's 20" tires, I don't think it's a very aggressive compound - has really been fine down to around 25F, which is the coldest it has been here so far this year.
