So my BMW 2007 328xi has been a nice addition to my herd of vehicles. I decided to add to the fleet. I have been watching auction sites for a replacement of my old work horse Pickup truck and saw this very nice example, just seemed eye catching so was very interesting. That began the deep dive into values and pricing on these.
I expected to be out bid as the auction time approached and set in my mind a max of $3700.
This specific auction yard was around 4 hours round trip away, so transport costs would be the cheapest possible (me) The only two Bidders were overseas after the bids increased above $2000.
Shockingly as bids slowly approached 3000 and watched as it was only the two overseas bidders were in the hunt, my bid max was 3000 and as we go closer to slow down of the time between bids I increased my bid max price to 3650...... it went to 3400 so added 50......And won it @ 3700.
I was expecting one or the other overseas to out bid, but it held to that amount.
So now I was getting to learn the IAA buyers process with real time training.
Front Loader pickle fork is how the vehicle shows up from Auction yard to your transport. So was a stressful moment once home and getting to power up the very first time to drive off trailer. Out of 5 bring a trailer buys over the years, was the first that could have rolled on or off the trailer....
So the adventure began.
So far its been a highly educational experience. My career was in Electronics, Mechanics, Electrical, Chemical and Instrumentation. So while definitely different than rebuilding gas vehicles, still has a motor and four wheels.
Overall so far a really nice vehicle to begin the electric vehicle experience.

Did an insurance company total it? Does it have a salvage title? Looks like it might have collided with a vehicle ahead and rear-ended by a vehicle behind. However, the damage doesn't appear to be deeper than the bumpers and their covers.

2017 is a pretty good year for the i3 and at the very least you'll have many salable parts if it turns out that it's not practical to repair and put it back on the road. You could search for one that has had a catastrophic electrical failure for the parts needed to - you're not going to want to buy replacements from Bmw!
