Hi, everyone!

I had to service my BMW because of this message warning failure for the acoustics pedestrian. It seems it is caused by the external speaker. I want to find a way to remove the warning message without needing to replace the speaker (unexpectedly expensive). I have Bimmer code and Bimmer link, but I just can't get rid of this warning. Any thoughts, please?

Is it fair to assume that you don't have any way to turn off the pedestrian warning alert from within iDrive?

You don't say where you are and what year the car is, and the problem is that you may be in a situation where you will be driving the car illegally - because in some countries, the warning sound is a mandatory requirement for vehicles younger than a certain age. The expense of a new speaker assembly may pale into insignificance, compared with the cost of medical care for someone that you injure with your car (which may not be covered by insurance if the car is modified).

One further thought - have you investigated the electrical connector adjacent to the sounder? It's very common for failures in comms between modules to be caused by corrosion in the connectors.

If iDrive in your i3 doesn't include the ability to disable the pedestrian warning sound, others have reported that a coding change will add this ability to iDrive. However, in some markets, disabling the pedestrian warning sound will trigger a warning message on the instrument panel. Some have reported that this warning message disappears after their i3's are shut down and started again. So depending on your market, you might be able to work around the failure of your pedestrian warning speaker via coding changes, but doing so might expose you to legal jeopardy.

Thanks, @mojo and @alohart, appreciate the bluntness. I am definitely not looking to drive around illegally or compromise safety, so no worries there. I know that disabling the warning can come with legal headaches.

The external speaker itself is the issue. Seems like a simple fix, but getting stuck with that message is a pain, and I would prefer not to shell out a ridiculous amount just to make it go away. I have checked the connectors for any corrosion and gave them a clean, but no luck. BimmerCode/BimmerLink didn't help clear it either. So, I am still blocked into this...

It's not so much your headache that I'm concerned with, but with the headache imparted on the person who unwittingly steps out in front of your silent car, regardless of fault.

Just a reminder with the support and direction of this website's administrator that while this topic can remain open for discussion, this site will not host any instructions / directions / links to workarounds to disable this safety system.

Thanks and carry on!

Do you know anyone who has a newer i3 that you could swap speakers with? Just to do a test?

Here's the part:

If I KNEW this would fix my problem, I would buy the speaker.

How did you determine it's the speaker?
