I'm now the owner of the 2021 i3 that I leased for three years. Before that I leased a 2018 i3 Rex. Also, I'll be 83 tomorrow and have never purchased a car with an automatic transmission in my life, but electric cars with “one pedal driving” come close to the stick shift feeling that I've always enjoyed while driving.

My last two non-electric cars were my 1997 BMW Z3 and a 2008 Volvo C30. The Volvo was traded in after 10 years for my first i3, and I sold the Z3 to a good friend last year. That's enough car history for now.

I previously owned a Prius prime and the electric only mode was fun so that's why I bought the i3

I started with a brand-new 2014 i3 BEV and just a few years ago turned it in for a 2021 i3s BEV. They are so much fun to drive and I agree with you about the appeal of "one pedal driving".

Regarding your comment that you, "have never purchased a car with an automatic transmission in my life", I understand the sentiment!

I like to think of the i3 a single-speed manual. The driver selects Drive or Reverse (which are done by electrically inverting power input to the motor). Park is done by activating a pawl to prevent the car from moving.

With just a single gear ratio available, I would submit that you are still driving a manual!
