We just order a solar orange BEV  , unfortunately delivery is not scheduled until December :|

Meanwhile I am looking at acquiring a suitable EVSE and would like the possibility to charge with 7.4 kW, only in Denmark you are not allow to have a phase imbalance of more than 16A.. and that will give me a modest 3.6 kW charging  , almost no better than the standard type 1 cable.

In principle, I guess!, it should be possible to convert 3 phases/400V/16A to 1 phase/230V/32A Does anyone know if such an EVSE exists?

Hej Lykke

Hygge

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for the tip; I think it is a very smart and above all flexible charger for the road, but I do not think is solve the phase imbalance issue for my domestic installation, i.e. I would probably not be legal to use it for charging at 7.4 kW because it will draw all the current from one supply phase only

I have a bad feeling that there is really no way to make a legal 7.4 kW-1 phase domestic EVSE in Denmark :(

Ja, dejligt med landsmænd! Nu kan vi også snart komme rundt i landet med den serie a ladere som EON skal stille op langs motorvejene.

You could do it with a transformer I think, but that would be expensive, and it would waste some energy from internal resistance resulting in heat.

A consult with a local electrician may come up with a viable result. Actually, the BMW dealers should have an idea, as I'm sure this issue must have come up.

Yes, that is what I was thinking, but I have not been able to find this type of EVSE and I am starting to think that they do not exist :( .. and I am not really into building my own EVSE :geek:

I talked to BMW who have only a very limited knowledge about this subject. The local power company seem mostly interested in pushing their own product, hence I feel the need to pull a lifeline to all the EVSE experts on this forum

Welcome aboard Lykke :)

I live in Farum and will recieve my i3 BEV in less than a month :)

I was wondering the exact same thing about getting to charge with 7.4 kWh. I guess it should also be possible to convert 3x16A to 1x32A ore something like that. I think the reason why this product does not exist is that it is only in very few countries we have this rule. A 3x32A -> 22kW Combo DC conver exists but is overly pricey.

I think it is more likely that we will see such a product go down in price.

Thanks Palleraa, I live in Brønshøj, look forward to seeing you on the "Hillerødmotorvej"

I have decided to prepare for the future and solve the problem by installing a 22kW EVSE, http://www.wallb-e.com/shop/,; fortunately we have a 3x50A supply line. The installation is completely legal and I guess I am allowed to use it as any other plug in the house, though it may be wise not to start an enquiry ;)
