I'm in North Carolina and really want an i3. I see that the West coast has significantly higher residual values on leases. If I were to lease from a dealer in California and do performance center delivery, but have the car registered in North Carolina, would I get the California residual or the North Carolina residual? Any tips or tricks around this?

You typically need to return the lease car to the place where you bought it...it could get expensive shipping it to the west coast for that! To use the performance center, you need to be special ordering the car, and if done now, that would mean special ordering a 2016 MY vehicle, and may not get the deals of the leftovers. I'm not sure BMW will deliver the i3 to the performance center since it may not have the range to get it anywhere except near them, limiting their volume and training required to properly prep it would likely make it uneconomical.

I'm not sure that's true... I assumed a lease from NJ and returned it in OH, and I'm about to turn in a lease from OH in NC.

I think I saw somewhere else (maybe Edmunds?) that BMWFS requires residual for place where car is to be titled / garaged to be used rather than place of dealer car is purchased from. Makes sense given that BMWFS is the owner of the vehicle and has nationwide coverage.
