Driver restraint system fault- anybody got an airbag?

Driving a 2014 i3 Rex in Sydney Australia. Driver Restraint System warning came up. BMW Service diagnostic recommended replacing clock spring rotating wire assembly behind steering wheel. A bit expensive. A couple of weeks later, same warning returns. Now I’m expected to replace drivers airbag. Very expensive! Anyone had similar experience? Where can I get a cheaper airbag?
