after being inoperative for >1 month

My complaint emails to to NRG (the station owner) and BMW were completely blown off

Chargepoint's email response time is >1 week ... pitiful

Anyway, it's now working

I should feel fortunate, since the huge majority of you do not have this free (included), DC Fast charger anywhere nearby

The only one near me had a broken latch last time I needed it..... Good thing I have a Rex.
I was surprised to find that I couldn't just hold it in place and pick up a few volts: I guess the latch button has an electronic interface with the charger to prevent this although it is hard to see how.

A difference between the plug used in Europe verses the USA...the latch button breaks an interlock which immediately tells the EVSE or CCS unit to remove power on the J1772 plug (no latch on the Euro one). Since the latch must be released before you can pull the plug out, it is safe. The Euro Meinekes (sp?) plug does not have a latch, and chose to use mechanical shutters in the plug that close when it is removed to protect anyone. The interlock is still broken, which shuts off the EVSE or CCS unit regardless, but they felt the addition of the mechanical shutters was a required safety feature.
