The short version.

My keyfob functions, ista recognises it to a degree...... a short while ago the doors could be opened remotely the ignition could be engaged but i had a fob battery low message. Skip forward an eme replacement and some remote wizardry to get it to function. I can now open the door with a key only and start the car with key next to the steering cowl. When, how and why it happened is beyond me.

Ista can see the key when next to the cowl and get all its info.

When removed from the cowl ista can see what buttons are being pressed etc so why does it not engage the car in the same way.

An additional bit of info is the EME is running *********540 and the car *******505 firmware so if i need to run any plans its unhappy.

Any help would be much appreciated

Possible cheap/free fix if fob batteries are good:
Disconnect HV in frunk.
Disconnect neg terminal from 12v battery for a minute.
Reconnect everything.

Thanks for the quick replies. The fob battery has been replaced and the 12v one too. Neither has made a difference. The car sees the fob ok see below. The one with the redacted bits is key next to cowl the others are with key in cab and buttons pressed.

I've got a remote from another i3 so i can see how both behave in ista. The incorrect one it says it cannot program the remote which makes sense. The faulty one says it can programmed during the progress.

Measure the voltage of the fob battery. Even though the nominal voltage of a new fob battery is 3.0 V, if it is below ~3.2 V, the fob won't work correctly. Some "new" fob batteries have less than 3.2 V, maybe because they've been sitting on a shelf somewhere for months.

Thanks for the reply. Yes ive done a bit of research on batteries and the 2032 LiCB cells come out near the top. I measured 3.31v with a fluke so looks ok. I realise its not under load. When i go into Ista and find the remote test it states battery voltage 100% and gived a complete green bar. The range test gives a green bar of 31 ish % depending on where i have the remote in relation to the car. I wish i knew if this was the norm. I can take another non relatated i3 remote into the car and it wont play at all. This leads me to think somehow its close to functional but not quite sure where its falling down.

In short the car is fine with the remote coding as holding it on the column all works as it should
The battery indicates 100% according to ista
Another part of ista reports door lock/unlock depending on button pressed.

What am i missing?
