Hi, newbie so please go easy on me!

I had a Type 2 Tethered charger fitted for free by BG a few months ago in anticipation of getting a Volvo V60 PHEV through my company car scheme. Due to a change of supplier the Volvo is now not available and I'm probably going to go for an I3 Rex instead.

The box installed is a 16Amp one as that is all the Volvo could accept. I have obviously used up my one free OLEV grant so getting another one is not an option. I'm struggling to find any figures on charging an I3 with a 16Amp box. How long will I need to leave it plugged in to get a full charge? Is the box fully compatible with charging an I3?

Thanks for any advice.

Probably twice as long as the 32 amp charger or 7 hrs for a full charge.

power=amps*volts. The max the i3 can take is 7,400W/hr. BMW lists 3.5-4Hrs for a full charge at the max rate (from nearly dead), but most people don't discharge it that far. It does not charge at the full rate the entire time based, mostly on the temperature. The battery heats up during recharge, so it slows down at the end, and if it is really cold to start with, may warm it up a bit. The conversion from 240vac to 400vdc isn't perfect, so not all of the energy put in goes into the batteries, but it's not bad.

Thanks for the answers guys. 7hrs will be fine for an overnight charge. My commute is 32 miles each way so reading the range people are getting I should still make it there and back after the school run, circa 12 miles. The Rex element will give us the piece of mind we need.
