Brake wear sensors

Hello.

My rear brakes are due for replacement for my i3. There's a recommendation that the rear wear sensors be replaced as well. Is it a good idea for me to buy the OEM part or can I buy a aftermarket brand that I've actually heard of for this application?

Please elaborate on why the rear brakes need replacing. With such strong regen and the fact that rear brakes handle a relatively small percentage of braking compared with front brakes, it seems very unusual to need to replace the rear brakes. Was there some malfunction (e.g., stuck parking brake) that caused the rear brakes to wear out prematurely? Did the rear brake wear sensors alert you to the need to replace the brake pads? Do the rotors need replacing as well?

Unfortunately, I can't answer your question about using 3rd-party brake wear sensors. However, a wear sensor seems like a very low-tech device, so I would be surprised if a 3rd-party sensor wasn't as good as a BMW sensor.

Yes. Rear wear sensor is the culprit. The rotors are also original on the car. The car is telling me that I should replace the rear brakes.
