Six years sure makes a difference! Our 2008 Infiniti was a nightmare to pair, took nearly an hour in the car with the manual and after all these years I still can't access my contacts from the cars screen. The i3 took less than 3 minutes and I had access to not only all the phone numbers in my contacts, but also all my iCloud music and playlists!

Indeed. The quality of implementation by the car company is also a huge factor.

We recently rented a car and were given a 2014 Vauxhall Insignia (a Buick Regal in the US). The bluetooth connected easily enough the first time but every time we got back into the car it required turning the bluetooth off/on in the car and also on the phone just to get them to reconnect. Same experience in a 2013 Ford Escape and a 2013 Nissan Altima.

Sometimes the phone can be the culprit behind poor bluetooth connectivity. I had a similar problem reconnection with a phone I used to have in several cars and when I switched phones the problem was gone.
