Since the i3 will not be available in the US for many months and the price is still fairly high, I am wondering if there might be other options. I already have a Honda Fit-EV which is fantastic but, after having owned 6 BMWs, I would love to also get an EV version of a Bimmer. One option that recently popped up is to convert an existing 3 series to electric.

Now there are plenty of tinkerers who are converting all kinds of cars to ev but I am not really interested in spending a year and a pile of money doing the R&D for this. I am looking for a reliable plug and play kit.

A quick search of the internet reveals two options.

Does anyone have any experience with either of those? Or does anyone know about other, better plug and play options?

Thanks a lot.

If you want my advise, I would call the guys at EVWest and talk to them. They are good guys that know a lot about converting these type of cars. They may be able to advise you on the best available kit....

Thank you Sranger.

I have seen EV West's video many times. Very impressive. I do not see a complete kit for the 3 series on their web site though. Just for VW.

But I will email them and ask. They sound like they are amassing a lot of knowledge.

Thanks for the link.
