Hi peeps
Just a question, I have ordered my BEV i3 Through a lease scheme, when speaking to the BMW i rep they inform me that the i3 will have optional LED headlights but they will not be adaptive ???
Is this true ? Has anyone else heard of this ?
Many thanks
Marky

The LED headlight option replaces the normal beam. They are not adaptive in the sense that the vehicle following is not there. However they are meant to swivel left and right however forum members have reported they don't do that. They do adjust for level automatically. The main beam I believe remains yellow tinged halogen. Some people have tried LED type replacements for the halogens.

I ordered a new i3 on Friday. I spoke at some length about the LED headlight option, and was told that it was originally intended that they would be adaptive, but the final version dropped that feature in the interests of energy and weight saving. The actual option as specified on my contract is "5A2 LED headlights". I understand that this means that dip beams will be LED and main beam remains halogen.

Interesting. When we put the deposit down for ours in April, it was still advertised and defined as 'Adaptive'. That was the only reason we actually paid for it. Not being adaptive makes me no longer interested. Time to update that order and save that money...

That's correct but they are self levelling.

Having had Xenons from when they first came out in the Vauxhall Omega I went for LED in the latest F10 and they are literally amazing.

However missing the adaptive is a pain. Being old and blind I am still going with the LED as going back to the halogens would also literally be the dark ages.

If you have ever had Xenons then I think you would appreciate the upgrade.

I drove the demonstrator at night and felt the main beam added nothing. The throw of the LEDs was very wide and very bright meaning the main beam was not that useful. I think there is another thread on here that discusses this in detail with some more practical experience from those who have used it in anger. Big discussion around the fact that auto dip is not a feature.
