Hi my i3 was parked up unused in the garage over the winter and the 12v battery went completely flat and wouldn't recover. I replaced it myself with a new identical genuine BMW battery. I then enquired at BMW specialists about new battery registration but was put off by the high cost and doubts about if it actually has any benefit or value. So I used my Ancel BM700 battery registration function, but again I have doubts that it doesn't actually do anything.
But I now notice the 12v battery is charging at 14.9v and I am concerned that is too high and might damage it. I never checked it before now so have nothing to compare it to.
Can anyone please confirm what are the normal I3 12v charging parameters, when it might vary and does registering the battery have any affect on those parameters?
In fact what exactly does registering the battery actually do?
Thank you.

That voltage is normal. Battery Registration on the i3 just makes a note in the system of when it was replaced.
You will find at least two camps of opinion on this:
1: Battery Registration is not necessary for the i3
2: Battery Registration is absolutely necessary because if you don't, the car will have no idea how to charge the battery.

I've read of many people who have never "registered" their replacement battery and they have had no problems for years.
Oddly enough if you replace an "Original" Battery (from when it was new), it does not appear to have been "registered" by BMW because there is no date of install in the system.

The "Battery Registration" info is apparently applied across all models that BMW sells and might make sense if you changed out a battery with one of a different capacity, for example one with a higher CCA rating or higher capacity. But those are not really options in this car.
