Fluid leak near rear left wheel; 2017 REX

One more possibility to throw in the mix - there is also a windshield washer line that goes from the reservoir to the rear window. The pump in my 2015 Rex sprang a leak, and most of the water seemed to drip out somewhere around the middle of the car.

Tire Repair kit is optional on i3?

I searched and searched eBay for a replacement tire compressor for my used i3 with no luck until I finally figured out that the proper name for it is the "BMW Mobility Kit." Then I found dozens for sale. Still expensive, but much cheaper than going through the dealer.

    Battery range dropping fast

FWIW, I don't think your readings are unusual. I have a 2015 Rex with 87,000 miles, and I only occasionally see 60 miles anymore on a full charge. Usually my mileage is in the mid 50's with wintertime dipping into the upper 40's. That's consistent with the 2% per year degradation I hear...

BMW i3 with 174,000km on it?

I have about 87,000 mi (around 140,000 km) on my 2015 Rex. So far, it's been a near-perfect car. On a warm day wth a full charge my Guess-O-Meter will still read around 60 miles (96km), more like 50 (80km) in the winter. I don't worry much about that, since I can always get home with the Rex...

    2014 i3 12V Battery charge

Thanks! I changed my post to reflect that.

    2014 i3 12V Battery charge

Not throwing any shade towards Mavourneen19, but for anyone reading this who is curious, the exact replacement battery for the i3 is the Remy/East Penn Aux18L, available for around $155 plus shipping. It is a bit awkward to change, and took me about 30 minutes the last time I did mine. (Not...

    2016 i3 - will not charge

89 octane is the recommended minimum for the i3 Rex

    2016 i3 - will not charge

Br33zy, it sounds like you're asking for information about a pretty deep repair here! It sounds to me like it needs a trip to the dealer for service.

What Car Did You Drive Before Going Electric

Fun topic! I love my i3Rex and drive it 95% of the time. Before this, I've been a Saab guy for decades, and still love my '04 93 5-speed convertible. It will be tough to part with, but an i4 might persuade me once the used prices get to the point where I can afford them.

    Problem with Range Extender

Even if it does turn out to be catastrophic failure of the REX engine, I would start looking for an independent mechanic who would be willing to do an engine swap. A quick look at eBay shows several used REX engines from around $1400 on up. This would still be an expensive repair, but shouldn't...

    Steering not self centering

There was definitely an issue some time back with the steering suddenly turning stiff - not uncontrollable, but definitly not normal. My 2014 had that problem occasionally and like others, when it would happen I could pull over, shut off the car, restart it, and it would be fine. Once enough...

    Updating Maps

This may not be what you're looking for, but I purchased one of the third-party units to allow me to have Android Auto and Apple Carplay in the car. My particular unit was from Road Top, and works well. It cost a couple hundred US Dollars and a couple of hours of my time, but the consistent...

Can I put 20x5.5 rims with 195-55R20 in all 4 corners on my 2019 i3 (rims are the front 20x5.5 from i3s models)?

Did the tire change make any change to the car's general skittishness at highway speeds? (I know it was built as a city car and not a highway cruiser) John Francis Rolla, MO

Can I put 20x5.5 rims with 195-55R20 in all 4 corners on my 2019 i3 (rims are the front 20x5.5 from i3s models)?

My local Discount Tire shop told me they had an i3 customer who wanted four of the rear tire on all four corners, using the stock wheels (narrower ones on the front). They said it fit, but it was very close. I didn't note if they were talking about 19"or 20", as I didn't want to try it.

    Speedometer recalibration?

FWIW, my wife's 2018 Mercedes GLC300 speedo reads right on the money, at least according to a Garmin GPS unit. My 2004 Saab reads 5 mph fast. John Francis Rolla, MO

    CarPlay option not appearing

I must say I'm a little jealous of you guys and your software-only solutions in the newer cars! For anyone reading this with an older car like my 2015 i3 Rex, however, there are options available. I bought the Road Top unit for mine, which cost a couple hundred dollars and a couple of hours of...

Auto cruise control shutting off in sunlight

cpallenjr had the right answer above. When the sun gets in the eyes of the i3, you can turn off the adaptive part and change it into regular cruise control by holding down the distance button for a few seconds. John Francis Rolla, MO

    2016 REX Owner

My 2016 Rex with 80,500 miles on it typically shows a range of 55-63 miles with a full charge on a warm day. That drops to closer to 50 in the winter here in Missouri. The beauty of the Rex, assuming you code it to Hold State of Charge, is that you can turn it on manually below 75% power if...

Question on engine coolant maintenance schedule: 125k miles

Using Bimmerlink to code Hold State Of Charge will make your life much easier, and the car more useful (IMHO). Once the charge is down to 75% or below you'll be able to activate HSOC while you still have plenty of charge left in the battery. Once you build up some confidence in it, I'd...
