    Battery Upgrade

Hi killban and terminus I hope that you are able to get your orders in quickly. I'm envious. I guess you now have the details of the specifications of the UK cars. You are buying at the right time because as you probably know vehicle tax will be payable on the REx for cars registered from next...

Pictures of my new i3 and my first mod

Mick They look like Rimblades which are available in the UK. There is a guy on the BMW i3 UK Facebook page who sells them for £15 + £20 fitting. Unfortunately he is on the South Coast but I'm sure that he would post a set (available in various colours) to you. His name is Mark Tykva...

BMW Loses Core Development Team For i3 & i8

It strikes me that these guys are just acting like Premiership football players - just going where the most money is. Germans not known for paying mega euros for their top people. Sensibly they believe in training a continual pipeline of engineers.

    2017 i3

You must be ticking ALL the option boxes to get over £40k LEDS? HK? Suite? 20" 430s? Sunroof? Plus how much extra for 30kwh battery?

    2017 i3

Good news. REx buyers will however need to get their orders in fairly quickly if they are going to get their MY 17 cars delivered and registered before the new flat rate vehicle tax rate (£140 pa) comes in next April and company/BIK changes also take effect. Fortunately it will not be applied...

    UK - which cables....?

molybdenum99, I would suggest that you buy a 32amp public charging cable as most type 2 chargers will not come with tethered cables. The consensus in the UK is that the BMW cable (commonly referred to as the "blue python") is not only the best but usually the cheapest - it was £165. If you don't...

    Professional media pack option

I'm another UK owner who after a bit of dithering (it is quite a costly option) bit the bullet and went for the Prof Media Pack. Pleased I did for the reasons psquare has said plus it really lifts the interior ambience - the standard screen looks cheap in a larger housing.

Do I keep my i3 for another three years?

David You will have to do the sums nearer the end of your lease. With the 2017 MY i3 with a longer range (+50% has been rumoured) going into production in July which could seriously impact on BEV residuals your leasing co may make you an offer to extend your lease or sell the car to you that...

    Noisy charger unit whilst preconditioning

November software update in the UK cures this problem. You do however need to complain to your i dealer as this update is not part of a recall programme. That said, you should also ask for the new engine mount bolts to be fitted at the same time (which also involves a software change to cut...

What are you getting after your i3?

The February issue of Car Magazine in the UK speculates that the next i model will be a crossover dubbed the i6. http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/spy-shots/bmw/bmw-to-give-i3-a-big-brother-car-february-2016/ ► It's the next i car, slotting betwixt i3 and i8 ► 300-mile range is the goal for BMW...

What are you getting after your i3?

The only thing that would put me off replacing my i3 REx would perhaps be the sense in waiting for the longer range MY 2017 car that apparently will go into production in July. Chevvy Bolt looks interesting but unlikely to come to Europe anytime soon (if at all). No way could I go back to an ICE.

    Install Thule roof rack tracks

This may be of interest. I believe you can attach various carriers http://torkliftcentral.com/rving-and-towing/ecohitch/bmw/2014-bmw-i3-ecohitch-reg There is also a YouTube video showing how to install

Can the camera be used for an autopilot?

As cars with Driving Assist Plus know (and display) the current speed limit taken from GPS and camera data it would be good to see the car's speed cut to speed limit (and accelerate afterwards) if following a vehicle exceeding the limit. Ford and others incorporate such software in their latest...

Chevy Bolt begins production “in just a few short months”

Clever design and 60 kwhs battery offers promising range and performance but battery pack weighs 960 lbs so I wouldn't expect it to be too nimble. But then again for $30k not bad value against competition.

Having a tough time getting hold of tyres?

I can also thoroughly recommend Event Tyres. I have used them for replacements on previous BMWs and MINIs. Prices very competitive and mobile to home service really excellent. Cost transparent up-front so no rip off extras.

    REX quote today.....fuel cost?????

My supplying dealer added the same £60 to the invoice but was waived when I brought it to their attention. I suspect it was bundled up in the standard "on the road" charge that BMW dealers apply to all new car sales. Your experience makes me wonder 9 months on how many REx (and even BEV) owners...

    Discharging Vehicle to power....????

Well said Francis. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

    i3 Rearguard

By coincidence I too received an email yesterday advising of the availability of "Rearguards" for the i3 although they have been on sale for some weeks. I am going for a carbon black which I have seen on an i3 and looked good.

    Installing a home charger

Hi Roisin There is lots of information and advice that can be downloaded from the BMW i3 UK Facebook page. I too used The Little Green Energy Co but they are based in Kent. I have a Rolec wall box which I am very happy with but there are other alternatives to the BMW Schneider box which is...

    Hello, new member

Hi FluidBlack Congratulations on your order. I guess you will be one of the first Fluid Black owners which will make your car very distinctive. I hope that the wait will be too much of an anguish. 6 weeks lead time seems to be about the norm so I hope you car gets built before Christmas. Have...
